Medium Voltage Distribution Systems
Design of medium voltage power distribution systems is a specialty of Cammisa and Wipf. We have designed systems with voltage levels ranging from 2.4KV to 34.5KV. Aspects of the distribution system covered in our plans and specifications include substructures, cables, splices and terminations, transformers, sectionalizing equipment, switchgear and controls, metering, protective relaying, and distribution automation.
Our designs are intended to provide the owners / operators with the capacity, reliability, redundancy, and operating flexibility required for the most demanding applications. We specialize in infrastructure design for both new installation and upgrade / retrofit projects. Our design of upgrades to existing systems features attention to details and owner's needs, with minimum disruption to facility operations.
The example pictured is part of the UCSF Long Hospital Electrical Substation project that included complete replacement of 12KV fused switches with vacuum circuit breaker type metal clad switchgear. The 12KV gear is a double bus arrangement for redundancy and operating flexibility. The electrically interlocked breakers provide for safe and seamless transfer between two 12KV feeders. Interface to a SCADA system provides remote monitoring and control of the system. The entire project was completed while the hospital was in operation.
